Jakob Mattner

In the 1970s Jakob Mattner began to work with the blackness of  night. He patinated geometric bodies with the grime of candle light into an impenetrable, non-reflecting black. In the exhibition room they were installed floating as “Dead Light”, individually, as a group or in dialogue with transparent bodies which were composed of geometrical shapes and were breaking the light of the room. Just as the “Twilight”-Series the works of “Percussion” are dominated by the disparity of tangible and visible shape. The composition of the installation with tripods, reflectors and sources of light is emerging in its contours. Their lucid shades and the reflecting shapes of light seem like their musical chord. The contrasts are perfectly tared and patterns of light are arising which continue the constructive art of the beginning Twentieth Century and plays of light in Bauhaus.

LichtRouten-Project: Camera Lucida

In the first room there is an installation of 1989, which produces a light image, in which different geometric shapes overlap. In the second room, light applications onto motile, reflecting discs bring about light images and light movements. In the light movements that travel through the industrial space, also three tipped paintings which could be described as abstract landscapes appear in lit and non-lit versions.

LichtRouten-Site: Culture Factory Berg

The former chemical factory today serves as a cultural center and is home of many artistic-creative groups and initiatives. Also the coffee roasting facility „Kaffeekultur“ is a resident of the center.
