Drawing, graphics, painting and installations belong to Rainer Plum’s portfolio. Point of reference of his artistic confrontation is the line. He shows it in its graphic qualities, as a description of form and object as well as a sign of presence, motion and energy. His preferred material for his sculpting works is light. He is creating rooms out of fog or water. These become an ephemeral stage for laser drawings. With the bundled, highly concentrated light performative installations are formed. These staged the continuous change of points turning into lines, lines that split into surfaces and surfaces that formed objects. In their transparency the surrounding space, regardless if inside, outside, architectural space or landscape, became part of the abstract composition.
LichtRouten-Project: The dissolving of spaces
In the small plane tree grove Rainer Plum creates a sprinkler system, which forms an ephemeral stage of laser drawings. With the bundled, highly concentrated light an abstract composition is forming, which follows the geometry of the light. It displays light as a medium of movement in a performative situation which changes continuously. Points, lines, surfaces and bodies oscillate in the image space and show light as form and space-building material.
LichtRouten-Site: City Hall Square – Plane tree grove
Before 1867 the square was named “Pastor pasture”. After a series of name changes it became City Hall Square almost 100 years later.
Starting in 1956, the new City Hall was built, 1957/8 the post office building followed.
In 1973 the City Hall tunnel was opened and traffic was banned from the place. The last time the City Hall Square has been redesigned was in 2004/2005. That’s when the plane tree grove was created as well.
